Green laser and the UV laser
Glass inner engraving technology is not a new technology, but it is a technology that other technology can’t replace it. So today, let us talk about the glass subsurface engraving technology. For only two laser can do glass inner engraving laser, the UV laser and the green laser.
Then what is the difference of these two laser’s application of the laser machine?
First, we need to know these two kind of laser.
The green laser is 532nm laser.
The UV laser is 355nm laser.
From the wavelength, we can know that the green is kind of laser be strengthened compare to the UV laser. So the power of the green laser is more strong.
Then let us go back to the glass inner printing theory. The laser makes a tiny crack on the glass, which is obvious as the small white dots. And then these dots constitute the image.
As the power of the green laser and the UV laser is different, so the crack they made on the crystal is also different. Green laser makes bigger cracks, the UV laser makes smaller crack. In eyes, that will be bigger dots and smaller dots.
Then the situation will be like draw the image with the bigger dots and the small dots. It is clear to understand the effect.
For the same image, it will use fewer dots with the big dots. While the small dots will give more precision with more dots. When this comes to the laser machine, the engraving speed is fixed,
The green laser will use less time to engrave.
The UV laser will need more time, while giving better precision.
When I explain to this, many may think they like UV laser better, a little time can get better precision, why don’t do that.
However, in the real application, that is not to raise a little time, and that is not really more beautiful. That is resisted by many factors.
The subsurface glass engraving technology began in the 2000s. I believe that many tourists have purchased this gift from the tourist store. From that time, machine suppliers and engineers have been using the green laser; they study and develop the software, impose the image drawing are all according to the green laser dots.They have put all the effects on the green laser machine, and then it comes today, a more suitable green source box, more stable and smaller, causing better cracks that are not easy to explode the glass. Also, they have update the method to get the dots on the original image to make the engraved image more beautiful. While this process don’t happen to the UV laser.
So today’s UV laser has two problems, for doesn't have a suitable laser source box, and it doesn't have suitable software to process the image.
So when the UV laser take 30mintues or more to engrave a model; the UV laser only need 30 seconds and give more beautiful effect.
Due to the development of green lasers for subsurface engraving for many years, there are many Chinese factories that have many machines. They engrave simple things into the glass in bulk and sell them. They make the glass themselves, and they engrave it themselves. The price they sell the engraved-well glass may be the same as the price you get for the blank glass from them.
